Several wrapped presents were stolen from the home in Coleraine in the burglary

Police in Northern Ireland have issued a Christmas crime warning after a number of wrapped presents were stolen from a house in Coleraine.

A quantity of jewellery was also taken, and a number of rooms ransacked during the break-in at a home in Greenmount Avenue.

It happened sometime between 19:30 GMT on 18 December and 08:25 on 19 December.

PSNI Det Insp Lavery said Christmas is "not a time of rest for criminals".

"They too are looking to take advantage at this time of year".

Police are asking the public to stay alert to their surroundings, to lock doors and windows at night, to keep high value items secure and to report any suspicious activity.

Det Insp Lavery added: "When you get home, keep your presents safe. Everyone likes to see Christmas presents around a tree, but make sure that no one can see them from outside".

Police have urged anyone with information about the Coleraine burglary to come forward.
