Top journalism award for BBC NI reporter

The annual Chartered Institutue of Public Relations (CIPR) NI awards recognise outstanding work in journalism, media and public relations.

BBC reporter Niall McCracken has won the Best Piece of Journalism award at the CIPR NI Media Awards.

Mr McCracken and his producer Judith Cummings were recognised at a ceremony in Belfast on Friday evening.

The award was for their work exposing failures in the adult safeguarding sector in Northern Ireland.

In The Issue: Failed in Care told the story of an elderly dementia patient, Stanley O'Neill who died in 2021.

His family later learned that failings in his care at a nursing home were not referred for adult safeguarding investigation.

BBC presenter Barra Best won the award for Broadcast Entertainment Programme of the Year for his 'Barra's Return to the Wild'.
