Derry is the penultimate stopover on the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, which left London in September.

The yacht won the home leg of the race, which puts the crew in fourth place and in contention to challenge for the third spot on the podium.

The crew have been looking forward to arriving in Derry. A nine-day maritime festival began on Saturday.

Thousands of people cheered along the quay as the clipper sailed down the river Foyle.

The yacht toured the river as music and fireworks filled the air.

The yacht left Greencastle in County Donegal at 08:00 BST on Monday and reached Derry at 11:00 BST.

The mayor of Derry, Brenda Stevenson, welcomed the crew.

The crew celebrated with champagne before they made it on to dry land.

Derry skipper Sean McCarter said he "is so proud and delighted to be home".

Andrew Taylor (left), 46, from London, went over the side of the Derry-Londonderry-Doire yacht in March and was rescued almost two hours later.

Breidge Boyle, who is originally from Derry, was delighted to see her family in the distance.
