Peter Robinson has said he will give full support to whoever eventually succeeds him as DUP leader.
Mr Robinson, who is 66 next month, will address his party's annual conference on Saturday.
Asked whether he plans to step down as DUP leader after next May's Westminster election, Mr Robinson reiterated that he has no particular timescale in mind.
He told BBC Radio Ulster's Inside Politics any future leadership change would be a carefully managed process.
