Housing benefit change will lead to cardboard city says Rowntree

Blur drummer David Rowntree predicts the return of the cardboard city, with people living in boxes on the streets, as "drastic cuts" will see some aged 25 to 35 lose half their housing benefit.

The government has suggested they go into shared accommodation, but the Labour activist and trainee solicitor believes they will end up homeless.

He spoke on the day when a survey showed more than half of councillors in England are worried about the strain on public services caused by cuts to housing benefit.

Mr Rowntree then debated the changes with Nick Herbert MP in the Daily Politics studio.

Each week, the Daily Politics offers a platform to a famous person to make a film with their views on a subject before debating them in the studio.
