Alistair Darling on independent Scotland using sterling

Former Chancellor Alistair Darling said an independent Scotland would be in an "absolutely ludicrous position" if it took sterling as its currency, with interest rates set by the Bank of England, which would then be a foreign country.

He planned to make a "full part" in the independence debate, but would be not drawn on whether he would lead the pro-unionist campaign, despite his name being touted for the job.
