Westminster parking row council leader stands down

Westminster City Council's leader is to step down from the job but denied it was connected to the controversy over proposed parking charges in London's West End.

Colin Barrow told the Sunday Politics London he took the decision six months ago to leave and added: "I have done what I came to do."

Mr Barrow still backed the plans to bring in parking charges on Westminster's streets at night, but said a final decision would be left for his successor.

Conservative MP Mark Field and Labour's Emily Thornberry gave their views on the council's handling of the parking row which has attracted 10,000 comments.
