Macmillan cancer figures wrong, says Iain Duncan Smith

The work and pensions secretary said Macmillan Cancer Support was wrong to claim 7,000 cancer patients would see their incomes fall by £94 a week from April.

Iain Duncan Smith said most people would not be touched by welfare changes, but the taxpayer "simply can't go on paying money to people who have savings and don't want to use them".

And he added: "We have done everything that Macmillan have asked us."

The issue dominated PMQs last June with angry exchanges between David Cameron and Ed Miliband.

Macmillan Cancer Support released this statement, external after the interview.
