GMT and Somerset clocks: Jacob Rees-Mogg on time zones

A Conservative MP is bidding for his county to move back 15 minutes in time, as MPs debate a bill to move British clocks forward by an hour to go in line with most of Western Europe.

Jacob Rees-Mogg wants to put Somerset behind the rest of Great Britain, as it was until 170 years ago when GMT was then enforced across the country to help make sense of railway timetables.

He later explained it was a bid to block Britain changing its time zone, saying it was "fruitless" to suggest further daylight time could be created.
