Portsmouth Council leader on Scottish naval contracts
A council leader has argued that no further UK government contracts for shipbuilding should be placed in Scotland until the independence issued has been settled.
Portsmouth's Gerald Vernon-Jackson said it would be "really stupid" for British ships to be built outside Britain, and argued that the work should go to his city.
The 2010 Strategic Defence and Security Review announced spending cuts for Britain's armed forces including the Royal Navy, leading to less work for naval dockyards.
