Conservative rebel Eleanor Laing on Lords reform bill

Conservative backbencher Eleanor Laing claimed the House of Commons exerted its "democratic muscle" against the government over coalition plans for reform of the House of Lords.

She did not believe the issue was dead but it needed to be "substantially amended", and said every MP had the right to vote with their conscience on any matter.
