Population and migration: Matt Kavanagh and Alp Mehmet

Alp Mehmet from Migration Watch said the 2011 population census figures for England and Wales showed immigration was "larger and greater" than expected.

Matt Kavanagh from the Institute for Public Policy Research said the rate of growth had not changed, and there were different patterns between the north and south of England.

Adam Fleming spoke to the pair about figures from the 2011 census showing there were 56.1 million people in the two nations, an increase of 7% in the last 10 years. The Office for National Statistics said more than half of the increase was down to immigration.
