Liberal Democrats in Scotland are not in government, but are part of a coalition with the Conservatives and Labour against Scottish independence.
They were reduced to five MSPs in the last Holyrood Parliamentary elections, and the Scottish party blames its demise on the Westminster coalition.
David Thompson spoke to The Herald political editor Magnus Gardham and former Lib Dem MSP Mike Rumbles on how the party could reinvent itself north of the border and change its relations with colleagues in other parts of the UK.
