Afghanistan: Malcolm Bruce on UK troops helping women
British troops have made "real progress" but are unlikely to leave a viable state in Afghanistan by their planned departure date of 2014, said the Commons' international development select committee chairman.
Liberal Democrat Malcolm Bruce said there had been "really significant progress for the people in Afghanistan, particularly for women".
But he said the UK would have to target what it could do and be "realistic about what we can achieve".
