Vladimir Putin: Anti-gay law 'does not harm anybody'

Russia's law banning gay "propaganda" does not harm anyone and there is no professional or social discrimination against gays in the country, Vladimir Putin has said.

The Russian president said Sir Elton John, who condemned the law during a recent performance in Moscow, was loved by millions "regardless of his sexual orientation".

There have been high-profile calls for a boycott of Sochi games in protest at the legislation.

Mr Putin made the comments in an interview with the BBC's Andrew Marr Show - less than three weeks before the Winter Games begin.
