Bryan Appleyard: Factory farming, food and eating meat
Scientists have said this week that diets should be limited to two portions of red meat and seven of poultry per week.
And there are claims that greenhouse gases from food production will go up by 80% if meat and dairy consumption carries on rising at present levels.
In a personal film for the Daily Politics, writer Bryan Appleyard claims factory farming actually reduces the amount of food available for us to eat, and that society will be judged by the way it treats animals.
The full sequence, with the studio debate from Wednesday's Daily Politics with MPs Matt Hancock and Emily Thornberry that follows this film, will be on iPlayer for seven days (UK only).
