Labour reshuffle: Chris Leslie and Cat Smith clash over changes

Former Labour shadow chancellor Chris Leslie has warned that the "hard left" is trying to take over the Labour Party, as he criticised leader Jeremy Corbyn's shadow cabinet reshuffle.

The MP told the Daily Politics there was a "natural impetus among the hard left who want to tighten their control" and to "sideline moderate voices when they have the chance to do so".

He also criticised the sacking of former shadow culture secretary Michael Dugher, suggesting it was because Mr Dugher "dared to have different views" from the leadership.

Shadow women and equalities minister Cat Smith said Mr Corbyn was "within his right" to choose who was in his top team.

She said he wanted to "realign" the shadow cabinet so it was a better match with the party.
