Shapps orders report into fatal Stonehaven train crash

The transport secretary has met emergency services and agencies when he visited the site of Wednesday’s derailment in Aberdeenshire.

Grant Shapps has ordered “resilience checks” to see whether heavy rain has affected the rail network in the area, and called for a report from Network Rail into the crash by 1 September.

He said: “We absolutely need to make sure that it does not happen again.”
