The founder of an international charity that helps street children is to be the new Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.

The Reverend Albert Bogle, minister at St Andrew's Parish Church in Bo'ness, has been chosen as moderator designate.

The married father-of-two has served in various roles within the General Assembly of the Church since 1983.

He set up the Vine Trust in 1985 to help some of the poorest communities around the world.

Currently, the charity's Amazon Hope Project provides a health service for about 100,000 patients every year.

Mr Bogle was convener of the Kirk's Church Without Walls planning group from 2004 to 2009.

He is currently a member of the World Mission Future Strategy Group.

He will replace the Reverend David Arnott at the Kirk's General Assembly next year.

The role is an honorary one which is held for a 12-month period.
