Plans to redevelop Easterbrook Hall

Plans to redevelop the south wing of the historic Easterbrook Hall in Dumfries have been lodged with the local authority.

Developers want to bring back a mothballed swimming pool and squash courts.

Dumfries and Galloway Council will also consider plans to create a new bistro and bar.

The pool, with associated changing room and massage facilities, was used by the NHS as a hydrotherapy pool until 2006.

The Crichton Development Company, which is putting forward the proposals, believes the plans will benefit 6,500 students who study at the Dumfries and Galloway College and University of Glasgow campuses nearby, as well as businesses and hotel guests.

No new parking measures have been being suggested, but a membership system would operate aimed at students, tenants and hotel guests.
