Muirfield Golf Club ban on female members upheld

Muirfield Golf Club in East Lothian has been told it will no longer host the prestigious Open Championship after it voted against allowing women to become members.

The club said it would continue to welcome women as guests or visitors.

However, governing body the R&A said it would not stage the Open "at a venue that does not admit women as members".
