Holyrood's EU exchange 'did not break referendum rules'

Holyrood's presiding officer has intervened in a row sparked by a discussion of the EU during First Minister's Questions.

The exchange between Labour leader Kezia Dugdale and SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon prompted a query from Leave campaigner Margaret Mitchell who asked whether they had broken parliament's "purdah" rules.

Presiding Officer Ken Macintosh said he had sought advice on the matter and was satisfied that no rules had been broken.
