The papers: Art school 'history ablaze'

The Sunday Mail reports there have been demands for an inquiry into the fire at the Glasgow School of Art, as questions are asked about whether fire suppression systems were in place in the building.

The renovated Mackintosh treasure has been destroyed in the blaze, says Scotland on Sunday, which describes the situation as a "heartbreak".

There's talk of "history ablaze" in the Sunday Post, which points out the fire came close to the end of a £35m refurbishment after the last major fire at the art school.

The Sunday Herald believes the building is "gone forever" and says there are also doubts about the neighbouring O2 ABC concert venue.

There's just a question as the headline in the Scottish Mail on Sunday: "How could it happen again?"

The Sunday Times Scotland makes a stab at an answer, saying the sprinkler system in the building was not ready yet.

The Scottish Sun on Sunday says restoration work costing £32m was destroyed in the fire which "gutted" the iconic building.
