Nicola Sturgeon: 'Not time to hit the Covid panic button'

Nicola Sturgeon has said it is not time to "press the panic button" as a new Covid variant has emerged in South Africa.

There are concerns the variant may be more transmissible and vaccines might be less effective against it, but no cases have yet been detected in the UK.

The first minister told BBC Scotland it may be the most worrying development in battling Covid in some months and precautions have been taken, including restriction on travel and quarantine on arrival.
