Taking a walk through rubbish-laden Edinburgh's Grassmarket

Rubbish in Scotland's capital has been piling up for the last 12 days - a result of a strike by refuse workers unhappy with their pay offer.

The industrial action has coincided with the Edinburgh festival when the city swells with visitors to the world-renowned arts and entertainment extravaganza.

Overflowing bins are seen on nearly every street, including along the busy Grassmarket.
