Murrell police charge 'really serious' - Humza Yousaf
The first minister says the Peter Murrell embezzlement charge is both serious and shocking.
Mr Murrell, a former chief executive of the party, was charged on Thursday by police.
First Minister Humza Yousaf described the case as "very serious". He also said it was "right" that Mr Murrell had resigned his membership of the SNP.
Mr Murrell had spent 22 years as the party's chief executive. He was previously arrested as a suspect on 5 April 2023 before being released without charge.
He was arrested then charged on Thursday after further questioning by officers investigating SNP funding and finances as part of Operation Branchform.
