John Swinney to stand as leader of SNP
John Swinney has announced that he will stand as leader of the SNP and first minister of Scotland.
The former deputy first minister is the first member of the party to announce his candidacy.
It follows the resignation of Humza Yousaf as SNP leader and first minister earlier this week.
In his speech, Mr Swinney said he wanted to "unite Scotland for independence".
