Linlithgow Palace is the setting for one of the most glamorous dates in the fashion calendar, The Metiers d'Art collection by Chanel's Karl Lagerfeld

An invited audience of around 400 has attended a show held by luxury fashion brand Chanel in West Lothian.

Linlithgow Palace hosted the Metiers d'Art collection by the French brand's creative director Karl Lagerfeld.

The collection was presented within the walls of the 15th Century palace, the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots.

His selection was believed to be inspired by the heritage of Chanel in Scotland, and featured Scottish model Stella Tennant.

The event is held in a different country each year.

Since 2002, Karl Lagerfeld has dedicated an annual ready-to-wear collection to showcase specialist craftsmanship.

Speaking after the Linlithgow event, Mr Lagerfeld said: "I loved the location and I must say the way the show was staged was exactly what I wanted.

"It was very interesting to use it for a show. I wanted the rough romance of this beautiful place."

The fashion brand recently bought a cashmere mill in the Scottish Borders after its owner went into administration.

Chanel took over Barrie Knitwear in Hawick, securing the jobs of its 176 staff, last month.

The company has worked with Chanel for more than 25 years producing cashmere knitwear, including its well-known two-tone cardigans.

Hollywood actor Brad Pitt is the current face of a campaign for the women's fragrance Chanel No 5, while actress Keira Knightley fronts an advert for the label's Coco Mademoiselle perfume.
