Residents evacuated from fire at Kincardine nursing home

The residents of a nursing home in Fife have been evacuated following a fire in the property.

Firefighters were called to the Forth Bay Nursing Home in Walker Street, Kincardine, at about 15:20.

Members of the public came to the aid of the elderly residents by helping them to find shelter.

About 60 firefighters were at the scene, dousing flames with powerful water jets and extinguishing the fire by 18:00.

Police Scotland said all residents and staff had been accounted for. There are not thought to have been any injuries.

Properties in the surrounding streets were also evacuated as a precaution and nearby roads were closed, including an access road to the Kincardine Bridge.

Part of the nursing home roof has been destroyed in the blaze.

Residents spent the night in temporary accommodation.

Area Manager Roddie Keith, SFRS incident commander, said: "I would like to pay tribute to our crews.

"They did a tremendous job in dealing with an extensive fire, ultimately bringing this incident to a swift conclusion.

"I would also like to thank our emergency service partners at Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service as well as the nursing home staff and the local authority.

"I must also acknowledge the people of this community who assisted the nursing home residents by helping to take them to a place of safety. Their care and compassion is to be thoroughly commended."
