Fire crews were called out to a blaze in the roof of a hotel in the Stockbridge area of Edinburgh.

Emergency services were alerted to the fire at the Nira Caledonia Hotel on Gloucester Place just before 15:00.

The hotel was evacuated and flames were seen rising above the roof of the building, but there were no reports of injuries.

Up to 20 firefighters were sent to the scene, with a high-lift unit among those deployed.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "A total of five appliances attended and crews extinguished the fire using high-powered hoses.

"There were no casualties and firefighters ensured the area was safe before leaving the scene."

Police Scotland officers were also called out, and traffic controls put in place in the local area.
