Islay shakes in minor earthquake

Residents of a Scottish island experienced a small earthquake of 2.6 magnitude during the early hours.

Islanders on Islay reported that windows and doors were rattled during the tremor at about 05:35.

However, no structural damage was reported and no-one was thought to have been injured .

The last UK earthquake recorded as "significant" by the British Geological Survey struck Lincolnshire in 2008. It had a magnitude of 5.2.

Another small tremor, of magnitude 1.9, was reported on Islay on 5 February.
