A man has been jailed for three years after assaulting a toddler and covering her face with a blanket.
Jay Thomson, 30, subjected the one-year-old girl to an "extensive and prolonged" attack at a property in Glasgow's Easterhouse in July 2022, after she did not stop crying.
Thomson pled guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to assaulting the girl to her severe injury.
He also admitted assaulting a woman to her injury at the same location.
Sheriff Andrew Cubie branded Thomson a "coward" at a previous hearing and put him under supervision for 12 months upon his release from custody.
A five-year non-harassment order was also granted.
'Screamed for her life'
The court heard that Thomson complained that the toddler was being "too clingy" and to "snap out of the crying and whingeing."
Thomson repeatedly covered the girl's face with a blue blanket, held her face down on a mattress and slapped her bottom which caused bruising as well as bleeding.
The toddler "screamed for her life" as she also sustained injuries to her forehead and foot as a result of the attacks.
A woman who was too terrified of Thomson to intervene eventually managed to flee the home with the toddler, but not before she was also attacked.
The court heard Thomson who grabbed her by the hair and punched her face.
The woman was unable to escape earlier as she had given her bank card to Thomson and had no access to money.
When she did get away the toddler was taken to hospital where the one-year-old girl was noted to have bruises to her forehead, thigh, leg, back and foot.
There was also "extensive bruising" to her buttocks as well as a possible bite mark.
