Minister Jim Mather concerned by job losses at Rok

Enterprise Minister Jim Mather has said the government would do all it could to help people losing their jobs following the collapse of building firm Rok.

More than 300 people are being made redundant across Scotland.

Administrators Pricewaterhouse Coopers said 130 jobs would go in Inverness, 74 in Dundee, 28 in Elgin, 19 in Thurso and 17 in Fort William.

Mr Mather said he was concerned about those losing their jobs and companies with contracts with Rok.

'Tailored support'

Partnership Action for Continuing Employment, (PACE) a Scottish government initiative, is among the organisations offering support to employees.

Mr Mather said: "The Scottish government is doing absolutely everything we can to support those affected.

"All employees have been provided with information on the availability of tailored support under the government's Partnership Action for Continuing Employment initiative, and local PACE teams will continue to offer the best possible advice."

He added: "I have arranged to meet two sub contractors who have been affected by this news, and will continue to do everything possible to minimise the impact for Rok employees and their sub contractors."
