Plan for Inshes roundabout, A9 and Culloden Road work

Three road improvement projects in Inverness should be carried out to a similar timescale, Highland Council officers have suggested.

If approved, the new plan would see work on the busy Inshes roundabout and upgrades to the B9006 Culloden Road and an A9 slip road done in phases.

In a report, officers have said it would be poor planning and use of public money not to do so.

Supermarket chain Asda will contribute towards the roundabout improvements.

The work, along with widening a stretch of the B9006, are needed to cope with increased traffic in the area, including as a result of the opening of a new Asda store next year.

Inshes roundabout is already one of the city's busiest.

Improvements are also required at a slip road off the A9, which would give access to the site of Inverness's new university campus at Beechwood.

The officers' report will be discussed at Highland Council's transport, environmental and community services committee next week.
