Invergordon Academy shut after canteen ceiling collapse

  • Published

More than 400 pupils at Invergordon Academy have been sent home for the day after part of the school's dining hall ceiling fell in.

Contractors have been working on a £149,000 project to replace the roof of the building for a number of weeks.

It was thought that water penetration over the weekend caused the collapse.

Highland Council said 440 pupils had been sent home on health and safety grounds as the canteen area was used as an access route.

Repairs are being carried out and it was hoped pupils could return as normal on Tuesday.
