Fort William festival honour for Aberdeenshire biologist

Dr Adam Watson was honoured for his work in the Cairngorms

A biologist dubbed Mr Cairngorms has received the Fort William Mountain Festival's Scottish Award for Excellence in Mountain Culture.

Dr Adam Watson, from Aberdeenshire, was honoured for his years of research in the Cairngorms.

He has studied and written about its plants and animal life.

Mike Pescod, one of the festival's organisers, said there were few people with a better understanding of the mountain range than Dr Watson.

Previous award winners included Ian Sykes, from Fort William, who founded outdoor clothing and equipment shop Nevisport.

Also, climber and inventor Hamish MacInnes, remote locations filmmaker Richard Else and mountaineer Jimmy Marshall.
