The A890 between Lochcarron and Kyle to re-open fully
- Published
A stretch of road between between Lochcarron and Kyle should be fully re-opened within a fortnight.
This part of the A890 has been shut since December following landslides.
The A890 helps to connect Lochcarron to Plockton, and its high school, and eventually with Kyle, on the opposite side of Loch Carron.
The road runs across the top of the sea loch to link up with the A896, the main road to Lochcarron.
Road traffic has been allowed onto the railway at Stromeferry in Wester Ross to help ease travel in the area between 07:00 and 19:00.
Outside of those hours, the journey by road involves drivers having to take a 140-mile (225km) diversion, instead of the usual 18 miles (29km) from Lochcarron to Plockton.
From Saturday work will commence on dismantling and removing the holdfast units and barriers on the railway line and from this date, traffic will be taken one-way in convoy through the road between 07:00 and 19:00, with no restriction on weight.
On Monday 23 April, the road will be open 24 hours a day, with traffic control measures to allow the removal of vegetation and the contractor's site along the length of the road.
The small car ferry has also been running between North and South Strome since January, while a seal-watching boat has been ferrying schoolchildren.
