Environmentalists have appealed against a legal judgement that rejected their court challenge to the Cairngorms National Park local plan.

The Cairngorms Campaign opposes plans for 1,500 homes at An Camas Mor, near Aviemore, and 117 at Carrbridge, 300 at Kingussie and 40 at Nethy Bridge.

It complained to the Court of Session about the local plan, which includes the developments.

The challenge was rejected by judge Lord Glennie last month.

Campaigners have lodged an appeal against Lord Glennie's judgement.

In a statement, the group said: "We are of the view that there is an issue of fundamental and far reaching importance relating to the European Habitats Directive for which we consider it necessary to seek a further ruling from the court."

The Cairngorms National Park Authority has instructed its lawyers to seek an urgent disposal of the appeal to avoid further delays to the implementation of the local plan.
