The anniversary of the Battle of Culloden is to be marked at the battlefield and in nearby Inverness.

Fought on 16 April 1746, Prince Charles Edward Stuart and his Jacobite force were defeated by a government army led by the Duke of Cumberland.

The National Trust for Scotland (NTS), which owns the battlefield, and the Gaelic Society of Inverness are holding events on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

They include lectures and a service of commemoration.

Historian Dr Christopher Duffy will deliver the inaugural National Trust for Scotland and 1745 Association lecture at the battlefield visitor centre on Friday, and will be speaking again on Saturday.

On Friday, an event called Clans, Culloden, and Ancestors and involving various organisations will be held at the Archive Centre in Inverness.

Events taking place on Saturday include the Gaelic Society's annual memorial service on the battlefield.
