Rescuers attend to a climber who was injured in a fall on Thursday

Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team has released images of a "shout" to illustrate conditions being experienced in the mountains at the moment.

The team went to the aid of a 33-year-old climber who broke a leg and suffered head injuries in a 100m fall through a cornice on Thursday.

Blocks of snow the size of a small car also fell from the overhanging edge of snow.

High winds and heavy snow have led to the creation of large cornices.

The injured climber was flown by an RAF Lossiemouth search and rescue helicopter to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

The mountain rescue team said the large size of the overhangs could easily be mistaken as solid ground.

Thursday's incident was the latest involving a walker and climber going through a cornice. Most of the people escaped injury because they landed in deep, soft snow below.

Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team has urged people to check weather and avalanche forecasts before heading out, and to also be prepared to alter their plans.
