In pictures: Hebridean Celtic Festival acts

The 19th Hebridean Celtic Festival starts in Stornoway on Lewis on Wednesday.

HebCelt, which features almost 40 musical acts and also fringe events, has two main stages on the Castle Green in front of the Lews Castle in Stornoway, as well as performances in An Lanntair arts centre.

The festival finishes on Saturday night.

Last year's HebCelt was the most successful in its history with ticket sales up by more than 30% and more than half the 16,000 festival-goers coming from outside the Western Isles.

The event generated about £1m for the local economy.

The acts include the Brighton folk-rockers the Levellers, a band that has been performing for 25 years.

Musician Luke Daniels will appear on HebCelt's new acoustic stage.

A former Riverdance band member, he had performed as a soloist on the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movie soundtracks.

Started in 2005, Breabach were nominated in the best group category at this year's BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

They were live act of the year at last year's MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards and have been nominated for honours at German folk awards.

The Scott Wood Band appeared at this year's Celtic Connections Festival Club.

The band was developed from the critically acclaimed Scott Wood Trio, who were nominated for up and coming artist of the year accolade at the MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards in 2013.

Singer-songwriter Willie Campbell will front the Open Day Rotation, a band from Lewis that has on occasions featured as many as 15 musicians.

Campbell has previously played with guitar pop outfit Astrid and Glasgow's The Reindeer Section.

The Magnolia Sisters is a Cajun music band based in Louisiana.

Duncan Chisholm ihas been described as one of Scotland's all-time great fiddle player.

Recently, he has been nominated for Radio 2 Folk Awards and shortlisted for Scottish Album of the Year.

The Misha MacPherson Trio were winners at this year's BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards.

Misha, a 20-year-old harpist and singer, grew up in Sandwick on Lewis.

Innes White plays guitar, mandolin, piano and sings, He was recently awarded the Saltire International Student Bursary for Gaelic Young Musician 2013/14.

Conal McDonagh was brought up in Poolewe in Wester Ross and plays the Scottish Highland and Border pipes as well as the Irish Uilleann pipes and the whistle. In 2012 he was awarded the annual scholarship for exceptional musicianship in his entrance audition to the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Ceol Na Cloinne are a group of young musicians and singers from Harris.

The group was originally formed eight years ago by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar's Community Learning and Development Service to give young traditional musicians the opportunity to play sessions together.

Award-winning Irish singer Cara Dillon is a former Radio 2 Folk Singer of the Year and will appear on the event's main stage on 18 July.

Glasgow-based folk band Gria won a competition to perform at last year's festival and will return for this week's event.
