Amazon: 'No announcements' on Outlander UK rights

Based on a series of bestselling books, Outlander was filmed across various Scottish locations

Amazon has declined to confirm reports that it has acquired the UK rights to the US TV series Outlander.

Described as Scotland's answer to Game of Thrones, Outlander follows the story of Claire Randell, a nurse from 1946 who is swept back in time to 1743.

The TV series, which features Doune Castle and Loch Ness, is based on novels by US author Diana Gabaldon.

Industry publication Broadcast reported the acquisition. They said it would be shown on Amazon Prime Instant Video.

A spokesman for Amazon said: "We have not made any announcements on this. As a company we do not comment on speculation or rumour."

Starz broadcasts Outlander in the US.

The first season attracted five million viewers a week and a second season of the series will start in America in April.

Locations for season one included the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, Loch Ness and Doune Castle.
