RNLI volunteers would be among those called on to respond to an emergency on Raasay

NHS Highland is to meet residents of Raasay to discuss the islanders' concerns about a lack of medical cover.

The island's nurse has been available less than 50% of the time and the last three months have seen no out-of-hours medical provision.

Any overnight medical emergency currently relies on a response from an air ambulance or an RNLI lifeboat.

Local SNP MP Ian Blackford has described the situation as "completely unacceptable".

NHS Highland managers are to meet Raasay Community Council on 28 September.

The health board said the shortage of cover had been created by problems being experienced nationally in recruiting health professionals.

Meetings have been held previously on levels of cover for the island's 170 residents. The last one took place in August.
