Councillors in Edinburgh have approved the appointment of Aberdeen's chief executive Sue Bruce to the same role in the capital.
Ms Bruce was chosen as the preferred candidate last month after holding the Aberdeen post for less than two years.
She previously held the same post at East Dunbartonshire Council and replaced Douglas Paterson in Aberdeen in 2008 after he took early retirement.
City of Edinburgh Council said she was the right calibre of candidate.
