Faroese boat abandons Peterhead landing amid wrangle

  • Published

A Faroese trawler did not dock in Peterhead on Wednesday night after a local fish processor opted not to buy its catch.

Fishermen had threatened to blockade the vessel as the row continues over the amount of mackerel Faroese and Icelandic boats are catching.

It is claimed the quotas threaten stocks as well as the Scottish fleet.

On Monday, fishermen had vowed to continue to blockade boats trying to land their catch in Scotland.

The Faroese vessel, Jupiter, was blockaded by Peterhead fishermen last month.

Mackerel brought £135m into the economy last year, making it the Scottish fleet's most valuable fish.
