Protestors claim the proposed windfarm development is too big

More than 300 people have marched through the centre of Lerwick to protest at plans to build a giant wind farm in the centre of the islands.

Protestors claim the 127-turbine development is too big and will blight the landscape.

But supporters say it will raise money for the islands, create jobs and help Scotland meet renewable energy targets.

Energy Minister Jim Mather will make the final decision on the planning application.

Viking Energy is behind the plans to build one of the biggest community wind farms in Europe.

Last September the firm scaled back its proposals, reducing the number of turbines from 150 to 127 and cutting back the ground area that would be covered.

The firm said it had listened to the community and made changes to address concerns.

The project is a joint venture with Scottish and Southern Energy.
