Assembly for Tomintoul gun death pair Sophie and Calum

Sophie Taylor and Calum Murray were both popular in the local community

A special school assembly has been held for two teenagers who died in a shooting tragedy last week.

It is believed trainee gamekeeper Calum Murray, 18, was cleaning a shotgun when it went off and killed Sophie Taylor, 16, and then turned the gun on himself.

The deaths took place at a cottage near Tomintoul on Tuesday. Prayers were said at church services on Sunday.

The Reverend Sven Bjarnason led the assembly at Speyside High School in Aberlour, where Sophie was a pupil.

He told the BBC Scotland news website it offered classmates and the community a chance to "come together and reflect".

Pupils are also being offered counselling either one-to-one or in groups.

Sophie's family said they had been left "completely shocked" by the death of their "beautiful" daughter.

And Mr Murray's family said he would be "treasured forever".

Police have said they are not looking for anyone else over the deaths.
