Gun death teenager's Facebook tribute page image probed

An altered photo on a Facebook tribute page for a teenage girl who was shot dead is being probed by police, the BBC Scotland news website can reveal.

It is believed trainee gamekeeper Calum Murray, 18, was cleaning a shotgun when it went off and killed Sophie Taylor, 16, and then turned the gun on himself.

The deaths happened at a cottage near Tomintoul last Tuesday.

The doctored Facebook image has been condemned on Sophie tribute's page and Grampian Police are investigating.

A spokeswoman for Facebook said the image had now been removed.

The BBC Scotland news website is not showing or describing it on grounds of taste.

A police spokesman said: "It's been reported and we are making inquiries."

On the tribute page, those close to Sophie called for whoever was responsible to be brought to justice.

Funerals announced

Meanwhile, the funerals of the two teenagers are to be held on Saturday and Monday, it has been announced.

Mr Murray's funeral is at Leochel-Cushnie Church on Saturday.

The service for Mr Murray - described as a "cherished son" in the death notice - is at 1030 BST.

A celebration of the life of Sophie - said to be a "precious" daughter - is at the Lecht Ski Centre on Monday.

The service is at 1300 BST. She will then be buried at Tomintoul Cemetery.

Prayers were said at local churches on Sunday.

And a special assembly was held at Speyside High School in Aberlour, where Sophie was a pupil, on Monday.

Police have said they are not looking for anyone else over the deaths.
