SNP's Neil MacGregor secures Aberdeen by-election win

Neil MacGregor won the by-election after Ron Clark's death

The SNP has secured a convincing by-election win following the death of a long-serving Aberdeen councillor.

Neil MacGregor triumphed in the vote which was held after the death of Ron Clark, the Lib Dem representative for Dyce, Bucksburn and Danestone.

Mr MacGregor secured 2,090 first preference votes, ahead of Labour's Graeme Lawrence with 941.

Mr Clark had been in public service for more than 30 years and his death prompted tributes from all parties.

The front two in the polls were were followed by Lib Dem Kristian Chapman with 446, Ross Thomson (Scottish Conservative) with 352, Independent Angela Joss with 150, and Green Rhonda Reekie with 88.

Polling took place on Thursday, ahead of Friday's count.

The turnout was 29.5%.

Mr Clark died in February.

It was decided not to coincide the by-election with the Scottish Parliament elections on 5 May.
