Aberdeen travellers site recommendation causes division

A site recommended by Aberdeen City Council officials as the best location for a new permanent stopping point for travellers has caused division.

A report to go before councillors next week recommends using a site at Bridge of Don's Scotstown Moor, which will become available in two years.

A former industrial site at Granitehill Road in Northfield could be used in the interim.

However, some councillors disagree on the plans.

Bridge of Don SNP councillor Muriel Jaffray said while Scotstown Moor had a long history as a travellers site it was not the right location anymore.

A fellow Bridge of Don councillor, Labour's Willie Young, said Scotstown Moor - and a proposed bylaw to deal with illegal camps - would provide a long-term solution for Aberdeen's travellers and residents alike.
